speed reading drills
**How to decrease my 5.5 speeds in a 40 yard dash?**?

I am 6.2 tall 247 lbs big as a power defensive end and tackle in college. Also, I want to play tight end as well ( I can catch and block as well). But I run a 5.5 on 40 yard dash and I wanted to get better by going 5.0 or lower. What type of drills, exercise, and workout for me to start working on?

Also, I wanted to be explosive at the line of scrimmage, so what drill or workout should I be doing?

Thank you for your time to read this!

Oh I almost forgot, winner will immediately get 10 point!
Correction: Im playing power defensive end, and wanted to get better on my speed. Also, tight end…

A quick way to decrease your 40 time is to lose weight. If you feel you can play tight end at 230-235lbs instead of 247 and still block effectively etc., losing those 12-17 lbs will undoubtedly drop your 40 time a little. As far as drills go, I’d work on agility as much as straight line speed – 40 yard square drills are good (forward 10, shuffle 10, backpedal 10, shuffle 10). Being able to make hard cuts will often free you as a TE and can be more useful/effective than pure 40 speed in getting good separation from LBs and safeties on short and mid range pass paterns (like a TE generally runs).

Good technique usually beats brute strength in blocking so work on your blocking technique if you really want to be a tight end because more often than not coaches expect the TE to block as well or better than he catches – pass catching tight ends who can’t block don’t stay on the field in running situations if they can’t block the guy in front of them consistently.

The final progression in Barker’s 800 meter training program is hill sprinting and bounding. Coaches can learn how sprinters in the 800 meters can improve the strength, speed, change of pace, acceleration and how to put a strong efficient force down into the ground in their finishing kick. 25 minutes. 2006.

Game Speed Blocking Drills (DVD)

$39.99

With Bond Shymansky, vMarquette University Head Coach; former Georgia Tech Head Volleyball Coach; 2004 ACC Coach of the YearCourt movement, net movement, hand positioning and vision sequence are the major points of Coach Shymansky’s game speed blocking drills. He begins with snapshot blocking and focuses on anticipation and positioning. These situations are covered on the net, off the net and over the net. Players work on hand positioning, which includes spreading the fingers out as the player prepares to block. The fast penetration move is taught to add efficiency to blocking at the net. The best blocking comes from taking away angles over the net, not by going straight up. Another technique at the net is drop blocking. The player must be aggressive and take away angles based on the read made on the hitter. Shymansky demonstrates the one hand blocking technique. Footwork includes the 4-step method, which makes movement efficient and quick. Another blocking technique is to concentrate on getting square to the net in order to maintain penetration. A zone blocking drill teaches players to block in all nine areas of the net. The rapid fire blocking drill challenges the player to block five shots from two different spots on the net. 48 minutes. 2007.
