Speed readers, how do you keep the pace up?

I know how to get to 800 plus wpm at times but then I slow down because it takes a lot of effort. Maybe there is some technique that will improve this. I only read one word at a time, that may be my problem. However, reading one at a time I still read pretty fast. It’s just that some times I will slow down. I am not sure how to prevent this from happening.

If you push yourself hard to read fast, it won’t keep long. I guess you need to pick up the formal speed reading techniques. It is like swimming, if you push yourself fast you can go for a short period but not long. But if you learned the correct way to swim fast and train with it then you’ll get your optimal speed.
