How do i get my ports to open up for torrent downloads on a mac osx?

a week ago i was using my laptop and all of a sudden utorrent stopped working. After playing with it for a wile i checked the speed guide, or whatever its called, and it determined that the ports i needed to be open, were in fact closed. After a while of reading thigns i determined that i needed to forward the ports that utorrent needed to use. I fallowed a tutorial on portforward.com for my linksys wireless router, but in the end nothing changed. Well i just got a macbook and i really want to get some torrents downloaded, but on my mac i have the same problem. I got vuze (the new azereus) to download at slow speeds, though the port that is using is supposedly closed. Transmission will not download at all, its port is also closed. Will someone help me figure out what to do to get everything working

Type http://192.168.1.1 into your address bar and hit enter. Once you’re there click Applications & Gaming. Where it says Application, type Vuze. Under Start and End, type the range of ports you want to forware (for example, 48000 to 48500). Leave the Protocol as Both, leave the IP address alone and check the Enable box. Then click Save Settings and close the window.

Once you’re done with that, open Vuze and hit Command-Comma to open up the Preferences window. Click Connection on the left side of the window if it’s not already open. Where it says Incoming TCP/UDP listen port, enter a port that’s within the range you specified earlier. For example, if you used 48000 – 48500, type in any number between 48000 and 48500. Click save and close the Preferences window. It can sometimes take up to half an hour for port changes to take effect, so your speed might not increase right away.
