Tips to increase reading speed?
I am looking for tips on increasing reading speed but also increasing focus so I know and memorize what I am reading.
Speed-reading tips:
1. read with your eyes, not with your lips….silent reading only!
2. let your eyes move, not your head (that takes time!)
3. move your eyes up and down; not left to right
4. place the book at a distance where you can see the entire page – if you can only see one or two paragraphs, you’re not doing it right
5. read only the 1st and last sentences in every paragraph – just skim thru the middle sentences.
Practice, practice, practice and monitor your daily progress (for example: day 1 – 1 page/minute; day 2 – 1 page/min., etc. If your rate doesn’t increase after a week, you are doing something wrong. Start again.
The real test of your skill: Improved rate and better comprehension. It’s not enough that you are able to read fast, it’s equally important that you fully understood what you read. And retention is the bonus!
Warning: Speed-reading is not applicable for all your subjects or classes.
How to Focus: Find your quiet place —- with minimal distractions. Turn off that cell!!!
Improving Memory: Sorry, I have no personal experience on this. I’m one of those with a photographic memory (yup, I’m weird). I’m sure the others can help you on this.
