Why is my Comcast Cable internet so slow?
I live in Ocean County New Jersey, and I use Comcast high speed internet with “power-boost” I recently upgraded to “power-boost” about 2 months ago and it was going great for about 2 or 3 days, then it just went back to being slow. I know for a fact it has nothing to do with my router, because I have at all times at least an 80% signal strength connection. My bandwidth is constantly slow, all though out the day reading any were from 1-11mbps, even thought it feels more like just a little faster then a 56k dial up connection. Maybe it is because I download? I don’t know…. If its because of the downloading, then I’d rather go back to 56k like I had 11 years ago, because there’s no point in having a high speed connection if you can’t download.
Has anyone else had this problem?
So it seems you’re on a wireless connection. First, run some bandwidth tests to be sure that it’s not just the websites you’re accessing:

I have Comcast, and I get about 2 megabits upload and 30 megabits download. With Powerboost, for about the first 30 seconds of downloading something your download speed goes faster. After those 30 seconds, the download speed will fall back to about 16 megabits. What you need to do is check with them to see what speed it should be at, and if the bandwidth test shows different numbers consistently then you’ve got a problem. 11 mbps sounds about right, but it depends on which plan you have, as some plans are faster than others.
Since you’re on wireless, you may have some leeches. That is, your neighbors may be leeching off your wireless connection and hogging your bandwidth. What wireless encryption do you have? I would try changing the encryption key and seeing if it changes anything.
