speed reading linux

I am not sure Vista SP1 will save itself from the bad impression of many users, it still produced many incompatible issues and speed problems. I know in a certain test, Vista shows some significant improvement in file copy, but this is only limited to massive small files copy, big file transfer still lack of speed. Read on to find out if Vista SP1 is a savior or killer to itself…
Compared to XP SP3, Vista SP1 does not impress most users. Without the dramatic overall speed increase like XP SP3, Vista SP1 might just kill itself, especially in this surrounded environment of XP. Microsoft cannot stop selling XP, not when Vista is not mature, or other alternative operating systems will take over Windows’ market share rapidly!
Vista SP1 only repair some major stability problems and performance issues, it really disappointed us when it comes to speed! Having said that, I still insist new PC buyer get the Vista license over XP, because you don’t want to pay double when Vista finally release its’ SP2!
Unless you are only upgrading your hardware, there is no point to upgrade to Vista now, because XP is simply better than Vista! However, don’t forget after Microsoft release XP SP3, he will divert all resources into Vista SP2, expected SP2 to be release within 18 months from SP1. Therefore, you should still get the Vista license for new PC, if you really want your computer to be fast, equip your computer with sufficient memory and then tweaks Vista with some tweaking tools and “Unleash Vista Power Advance Guide”, should give you the satisfaction until SP2 release.
Vista SP1 is merely a survivor to defend itself from XP SP3, we are expecting Vista SP2 to be the real hero soon! If Microsoft still failed to deliver SP2 in time and effectively improve its’ speed, that will be the real killer! More users will switch to Apple, Linux or Ubuntu. Certainly, Vista won’t die, because the hardware processing power will safe it from major disaster, but we can expect Windows share to drop, a lot.

Linux $16.99 We’ll use the more than apt description of Linux from ESR’s Jargon File: Linux /lee’nuhks/ or /li’nuks/, not /li:’nuhks/ n. The free Unix workalike created by Linus Torvalds and friends starting about 1991. The pronunciation /li’nuhks/ is preferred because the name `Linus’ has an /ee/ sound in Swedish (Linus’s family is part of Finland’s 6% ethnic-Swedish minority) and Linus considers English short /i/ to be closer to /ee/ than English long /i:/. This may be the most remarkable hacker project in history — an entire clone of Unix for 386, 486 and Pentium micros, distributed for free with sources over the net (ports to Alpha and Sparc and many other machines are also in use). Linux is what GNU aimed to be, and it relies on the GNU toolset. But the Free Software Foundation didn’t produce the kernel to go with that toolset until 1999, which was too late. Other, similar efforts like FreeBSD and NetBSD have been technically successful but never caught fire the way Linux has; as this is written in 2001, Linux is seriously challenging Microsoft’s OS dominance. It has already captured 31% of the Internet-server market and 25% of general business servers.
