Problem reading DVD burnt with same DVD writer?

My one year old Sony DVD writer has suddenly stopped recognizing DVDs burnt with Nero (I got this version of Nero with the writer) recently by the same writer in Windows XP. But the same DVD works fine in Windows 98 in my desktop or any other operating system in any other computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Nero, but that did not solve the problem. The DVDs are burnt within their writing speed limit. How can I solve the problem?
Newly burnt DVDs when inserted are being shown as “CD Drive” after a long time, while other old DVDs are working fine.

Well, change your drive to a new one.

Rip off the old drive. anyway new drive is very cheap.
