Speed Reading in Washington DC?

Hello,

I am trying to find a speed reading course or class in the Washington D.C. area. Does anyone have any recommendations?

It’s pretty hard to find speed reading courses nowadays, but here’s one company that apparently teaches speed reading in Washington D.C. Here’s their schedule: http://www.irisreading.com/washington-dc/

Eveylyn Wood, who famously taught President John F. Kennedy to speed read, used to have a program called Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics. Her classes were taught across the country until she passed away around 1990. Since then speed reading kinda fizzled away and most of the stuff out there is speed reading software or online programs. It’s probably easier to learn in a classroom environment.

Hope that helps :-)

Carved out, at the close of the eighteenth century, of some of the thickest woods and foulest swamps north of Georgia, the glorious city of Washington D.C., is among America’s most stately, most beautiful, and most impressive. Indeed, once maligned by Charles Dickens as simply "spacious avenues that begin in nothing and lead nowhere; streets a mile long that only want houses, roads, and inhabitants; public buildings that need but a public to be complete, " Washington, D.C. today is a powerful symbol not only of our nation but of democracy.Spanning the Potomac in majestic fashion, the city fans out gracefully, offering a multitude of pleasures to the more than twenty million tourists who visit annually. From official Washington (the imposing Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the White House, the Capitol, the souring obelisk of the Washington Monument) to its lush public parks and gardens; from Union Station to Ford’s Theater; the Willard Hotel to the Library of Congress to the fabled Belgian Embassy; the charm of its celebrated Cherry Blossom Festival to the somber beauty of the Vietnam Wall; from the delightful Easter egg roll to the profoundly moving Holocaust Museum—Washington D.C., A Photographic Tour manages to convey all the grandeur of the nation’s capital while reminding us that this splendor belongs, of course, to all who prize democracy.

With 127 pairs of matching photographs, "Washington, D.C., Past and Present" takes the reader on a journey through time. Author and photographer Peter R. Penczer has selected 127 fine vintage photographs of Washington, D.C., and the Virginia and Maryland suburbs and has rephotographed each site from exactly the same vantage point. Readers will be astonished by how much, and in some cases how little, the city has changed. Many of Washington’s great monumental buildings are still with us today, but in dramatically different settings. Others, such as the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station, site of President Garfield’s assassination, have since been demolished. Today the site is occupied by the National Gallery of Art. On every page, then and now photographs appear side-by-side. A photograph of workers putting the finishing touches on the Tivoli Theater in 1923 is shown alongside the Tivoli today, a magnificent ruin. Where a row of houses stood in Southwest Washington in the 1950s we now see the Southwest Freeway. The Virginia and Maryland suburbs are covered here as well. Early photographs of Clarendon, Falls Church, Alexandria, Fairfax, Herndon, Chevy Chase, Rockville, Hyattsville, and many other localities appear alongside recent photographs of exactly the same view. Accompanying the 254 then and now photographs are 127 lucid, thoroughly researched captions describing the forces that have transformed Washington, D.C., and the metropolitan area. "Washington, D.C., Past and Present" is fascinating reading for anyone interested in Washington, metropolis and capital city, and its environs.
