Is speed reading really effective?
Note that by effective, I mean being able to read at a speed of >1,000 wpm WITH all the stages added to the total time and still maintain a comprehension rate of greater than 75%.
I can speed read using the Evelyn Wood subvocal-linear technique at around 750 wpm, but I often miss a lot of important information.
It works for me. I typically read more slowly when reading for pleasure, or enjoying the flow of language, than when reading for information. Like anything else, this takes practice.
