speed reading and comprehension test
Would it be correct to say that the Doppler effect is…. Frequency question?
Would it be correct to say that the Doppler effect is the apparent change in the speed of a wave due to motion of the source? (Why is this question a test of reading comprehension as well as a test of physics knowledge?)
I know the answer to the first part is, No the doppler effect applies to changes in frequency. But honestly I have no idea what the teacher was talking about and I really don’t understand the second part of the question. Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.
It doesn’t refer to anything that we read in our book. We don’t even really use our book we just take notes and our notes dont really cover this either.
When a firetruck comes toward you, its pitch increases and as it moves away, its pitch decreases. This phenomena is often associated with the Doppler Effect.
Pitch is directly related to frequency. This change in pitch (more correctly frequency) is what defines Doppler Effect: an observed change in frequency when there is relative motion between the source of the Waves and an observer.
